K-POP Contest 2017 Delhi regional, held at Korean Cultural Centre India

Vivek Sharma,New Delhi: The much awaited K-POP Contest 2017 Delhi regional round was held at Korean Cultural Centre India (KCCI), New Delhi. The 6th edition was more thrilling than ever before. This year India witnessed the participation of 898 contestants where in 257 contestants had applied from Delhi. 79 participants from Delhi got a chance to perform on stage of Delhi Regional Round at KCCI. Regional round had begun from Delhi and will be held at 10 more regions, which includes: Patna, Chennai, Assam, Mizoram, Nagaland, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Odisha, Kolkata and Mumbai. Judges for Delhi round were Kim Kum Pyoung, director of Korean Cultural Centre India, Ahn Young-jin, Executive director of Hyundai India, Kim Jae-hyung, Deputy director of Korea Tourism Organization in Delhi, and K-pop Academy teachers Lee SeoulJin, Kim Jaeyeop.Director of KCCI  Kim Kum Pyoung said that Delhi has made a remarkable presence in the K-POP contest. The competitors have raised the bars of competition. Beside Gangnam Style many followers of BTS Band, Girls Generation, Big Bang, Exo and more were seen. This time we have Lucente, a South Korean boy band coming to the Indian Finale round at New Delhi. Last year’s K-POP World Festival winner Priyanka Mazumdar said that “I can’t get over the experience of being in Korea and performing on the same stage as K-pop stars. I still feel like I’m living in those days”. She won the 3rd prize for vocal category, representing India amongst participants from 65 countries in 2016. K-POP Contest provides a platform for all K-pop lovers to prove their mettle in Korean singing and dancing. Winning team from the regional rounds will perform at the Indian Grand-Finale Round on 29 th July 2017 at Talkatora Stadium, New Delhi. The winning team at the grand finale will be nominated for the 2017 K-pop World Festival and will get an all expenses paid trip to Korea. BRIEF ABOUT K-POP K-POP is a musical genre characterised by a wide variety of audiovisual elements, described as a modern form of South Korean pop music covering mostly dance-pop, pop ballad, electronic, rock, hip-hop,etc. The craze and the jazz for this genre of music are extremely popular and global. K-Pop marked its presence in India four years ago through Psy's Gangnam Style. With almost more than 60 countries taking part every year, India is also fast pacing with the Hallyu wave (Korean entertainment and Pop Culture), and since the year 2012, Korean Cultural Centre India has been organising the ‘K-POP Contest India’ every year.
