Vivek Sharma, New Delhi: Delhi enjoyed the PyeongChang 2018 Winter Olympics with live screening of games at Korean Cultural Centre India, New Delhi. The evening witnessed the presence of His Excellence  – Ambassador Shin Bongkil, Embassy of Republic of Korea to India, Kiron Soni Gupta – additional secretary to ministry of youth affairs and sports, Kim Kum Pyoung – director of Korean Cultural Centre.

The Event aimed to cheer the Indian Athletes representing India in Luge and Cross-country skiing, and wished great success of PyeongChang 2018 Winter Olympics. Cross-country Skier Jagdish Singh and luge rider Shiva Kesahvan are representing India at the games.   
 
Kiron Soni Gupta said ‘Sports has become more organized, structured, and competitive and talents are tested here. Although India is making a very humble participation in this winter Olympics games, I wish Shiva and Jagdesh – our best wishes. Winter Olympics are not new to us, India has been participating since 64. We have big (Top) Winter Olympic Podium Scheme where we do help sports person participate in the global events.’
Ambassador Shin Bongkil said that ‘It is a historic day for us, as both South and North Korea is under one flag, sending out the message of unified Korea. 

The PyeongChang 2018 Winter Olympics, had the largest number of participants in history, including North Korean athletes as well. Kim Kum-pyoung, Director of Korean Cultural Centre India, said “The Olympics will serve as a cornerstone for realizing inter-Korean reconciliation as well as peace and prosperity on the Korean Peninsula”.

Top 5 winners of first India-Korea friendship painting competition - senior category were awarded and kicked off to their trip to South Korea for Winter Olympics on the same day. 22000 students from across India had participated in this competition under the theme Winter Olympics.
