New Delhi. On the 2nd and 3rd September , 2016 a “Women Safety and Self-Defence Training” workshop was organized by Centre for Social Development & Research Foundation(Registered Under Section 8 of Companies Act 2013 ) in the Sindhi Hindu refugee camp at Majnu -ka-Tilla ,New Delhi .It was an initiative taken by the Directors of this NGO especially Gurvinder Kaur,Vivek Sharma,Kyati Gupta,Jag Pravesh and Rakesh Kumar Sharma.The successful completion of this event has been especially possible due to the contributions of Director Gurvinder Kaur,Head of the Women and Child Rights division of this organisation and Dr.Rakesh Kumar ,the CEO of the organization.Also without the active involvement and guidance of the instructor Ms.Navpreet Kaur , this event would not have possible. About 28 female teenagers from the camp participated in this event which took place on the afternoon of 2nd and 3rd september ,2016 respectively . The event was a complete success as seen in not only the smiles of the instructor and the organizers but also its participants.Certificates too were given to the participants .
Women of this Sindhi Hindu Refugee Camp has seen enough share of their struggle for survival and sustenance and as they adapt to the new city in which they are being rehabilitated it becomes imperative that they become aware of their surrounding and know how to solve their problems.This workshop 's objective was to enable the teenagers trained to be able to deal with any harrassment that they might face in their surroundings.
The effort of the interns have also been of much value .Interns from Delhi University and Jawaharlal Nehru University had proactively participated in the event especially ShikhaYadav,Ritu kashyap,Santosh,Boris & Aratrika.When the names of the participants were being collected by the interns many of the teenagers had apprehension and queries about what was to take place in the workshop.Some even enquired about the meaning of self-defense and how the workshop would be useful for them .
