Vivek Sharma, New Delhi: The Central Institute of Education (CIE) (alias the Department of Education), University of Delhi celebrated its Platinum Jubilee (75th Foundation Day) on 19 December 2022 in the Anath Nath Basu Auditorium. The programme commenced with an invocation song. The event was inaugurated with lighting of the lamp by the distinguished guests. Professor Pankaj Arora, Head of the Department, on behalf of the CIE family, formally welcomed the august gathering and presented the annual report of the Department for the academic year 2022. Professor Arora shared the key achievements and the new initiatives of the department and its faculty members along with elucidating the history and importance of the foundation day. The foundation day lecture was delivered by honorable chief guest Professor Virendra Kumar Malhotra, chairperson of Madhya Pradesh State Food commission and the former member secretary of ICSSR. His lecture titled ‘Major Issues in Education and Missing Links’ expounded upon the current state of education in India, related metrics, major issues that plague the Indian education system, and the ways to bridge the gaps and missing links that we witness today in the system. The program was presided over by Professor Yogesh Singh, the honorable Vice Chancellor of the University of Delhi. He enlightened the audience about originality, imagination and creativity is the three crucial pillars of any quality education system and progressive economy. He shared numerous educational parallels from different countries to elicit the nature of 21st century education while emphasizing the irreplaceable role of an active teacher in students’ life, nation building and the future of our society. The program was concluded with the inauguration of the new website of the Faculty of Education by the distinguished guests, a vote of thanks by the staff, secretary Dr. Vikas Baniwal, and  the National Anthem. The program was followed by a scrumptious community lunch.
